Small Town, Heavy Project

The “Just Being Social” segment is designed to report on hot social media topics — whether informative, controversial, fun or just bizarre. If you’ve seen a social media post that warrants further coverage, please send a link to Abby Bowman at abowman@glass.com.

As the proprietor of what he believes is the only auto glass company in Pahrump, Nevada, Stan Moore has worked on just about every kind of car or tractor a small town has to offer. That includes a SWAT-level armored vehicle.

Moore posted photos of the installation in an industry Facebook group, garnering more than 100 likes and 40-plus comments.

“The Lenco BearCat belongs to the sheriff’s department,” the owner of S&T Auto Glass & Repair tells AGRR. “I do all the auto glass work for the county, so they brought it to me.”

Moore had never worked on that kind of vehicle before, so he contacted Lenco for more information.

“They only sell parts to law enforcement, so the sheriff’s department had to buy the glass,” he says. “It’s bullet-resistant. Lenco warned me that each piece is about 200 pounds, so I would need help setting the glass.”

Removing the old glass proved to be a challenge, too.

“The glass has to sit right on the pinchweld because it’s so heavy,” Moore says. “I went through a few extraction blades before I finally got it out.”

Lenco sent a kit with most of the basic supplies he’d need for the installation. Moore had to get creative with setting tools, though.

“I bought special suction cups to handle that much weight,” Moore says. “The county also let me use a crane mounted on a utility vehicle to lift the glass into place. That made the installation easier than I expected.”

Moore told the sheriff’s department to wait at least 24 hours post-installation before driving the vehicle, just to be safe.

“Honestly, the BearCat will probably be sitting around for a lot longer than that,” Moore says. “It’s an armored vehicle in a small town. They don’t use it often.”
