Just Being Social

The “Just Being Social” segment is designed to report on hot social media topics—whether informative, controversial, fun or just bizarre. If you’ve seen a social media post that warrants further coverage, please send a link to Abby Bowman at abowman@glass.com.

Another Day at the Shop

One Florida family-owned business recently replaced the windshield of a much higher-profile customer than usual: their state governor.

Sarah Seymour, co-owner of Tallahassee, Florida-based Seminole Auto Glass, posted about the job on her Facebook page.

“I got as excited as a honey bee chasing nectar,” the 2024 ADAS Calibration Competition grand champion joked, referring to her beekeeping hobby.

According to Seymour, a member of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ staff contacted the shop about working on one of his motorcade vehicles. The shop replaced the 2-inch-thick protective windshield and got the car back on the road.

“Our work will blend in with the rest [of the motorcade], and you’ll never know which one it was,” Seymour says.

Got Urethane?

If less is more, then more is too much. That’s certainly true of the urethane application on this truck. Joey Jones, owner of Greencastle, Indiana-based Rockstar Window Tinting and Auto Glass Plus, shared photos of more-than-questionable work done by a previous shop on the Auto Glass Tech Group Facebook group.

Seeing Stars

TikTok user Abi Caswell recently had a very bad day. She got her windshield replaced on the morning of May 14, but by that afternoon, she discovered a new star break. She posted a video of herself laughing hysterically at her misfortune, asking viewers, “Is this a valid [emotional] crash-out?”

“Is there a return window?” one commenter asked. Another, hopefully jokingly, said, “This is why I refuse to get a new windshield until the cracks won’t let me get an inspection sticker.”

That commenter wasn’t the only one avoiding a safety glass replacement. “I’ve been driving around with a cracked windshield for YEARS because I’m convinced this is going to happen to me,” one person writes.

Another says, “The same thing happened to me last year! I’m [still] rocking a line across my windshield a year later.”
