Field of Vision Fall 2024

Auto Glass Weather

By Abby Bowman

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Before you ask—no, I don’t need calendar-reading lessons, and no, I’m not the type to start celebrating Christmas in October.

I’m talking about my favorite season: fall. Or “autumn,” if you’re feeling formal, which I rarely am.

I adore so many things about fall, starting with the vibrant trees shouting, “Look at me, aren’t I lovely!” as one last hurrah before the winter. Once it hits sweater weather, I transition from exclusively cold drinks to… still mostly cold beverages, but I throw in a hot pumpkin spice latte or a spiced cider here and there. I also bake way too many apple pies.

And let’s not forget two of my favorite holidays, which we celebrate in the fall: Halloween and Thanksgiving. Who doesn’t want to don a costume to eat candy one month and then prepare a feast the next?

Fall is also a big time of year for the auto glass industry. As I write this, the industry’s biggest event, Auto Glass Week™ (AGW), concluded a couple of weeks ago.

This was my first AGW, and to say it knocked my socks off would be an understatement. As I ran around reporting, I found so much to love—from the educational sessions and workshops to the competitions, demonstrations, and sponsor booths.

But most of all, there were the people. I was delighted to meet many of the individuals I’ve been emailing and calling for the better part of the year, and I enjoyed getting to know those I hadn’t yet interacted with. I already can’t wait for next year’s event, which will be in Reno, Nevada, from September 9–11.

This year’s events aren’t done, though. The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show and the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) are both around the corner in November. Though neither focuses on auto glass specifically, well-known companies in our industry will exhibit at both.

With all the events, fall is the busiest and most wonderful time of the year in the auto glass repair and replacement industry. I hope you enjoyed AGW and will enjoy everything else the fall has to offer—both within the industry and outside of it. I know I will.

Editor’s note: Though I might not be one to celebrate holidays too early, you won’t see the next issue of AGRR until January/February 2025. So, until then, I wish you a delightful Halloween, a wonderful Thanksgiving, and the happiest of holidays!
